A fast secured loan is generally going to cost you more than a secured loan that takes longer. While it will cost you less than an unsecured loan, the fact that you require it quickly generally puts up a red flag in the mind of the lender and that will cost you more.
A lender who thinks, why is this person not prepared to pay for this short term crisis on her or his own? is a lender who thinks the consumer is ill prepared to repay the fast secured loan as well. The higher the lender risk, the higher the rate.
One of the riskiest of the fast secured loan family is the title loan. Just as with payday loan, a car title loan is secured and fast and is marketed as a loan for emergencies. The reality is much grimmer, however, in that it is often the trap that puts the poor into an even worse cycle of debt.
A typical fast secured title loan charges well over 100 percent in annual interest, has to be paid within 30 days and is for considerably less than the cars value.
The worst case scenario for this type of fast secured loan – and happens far too often – is that the borrower loses her or his only transportation, and the means to get to and from work. Which, of course, considerably worsens the financial situation that brought the borrower to the title loan provider in the first place.
Most of these fast secured title loan providers will only lend money on a car that the borrower owns free and clear. Most target consumers that have bad credit, that are low income, that are elderly or military.
The way this fast secured title loan is written the consumer does not see the reality of the interest rate and the ultimate cost. While the consumer looks at the 30 day paperwork and sees that she or he is paying back 125 percent of what she was originally lent, the fact remains that figured on an annual basis this brings the interest rate to an annual 300 percent.
What happens more often than not, however -which makes it even worse for that debt-ridden struggling consumer – is that she or he is still badly in debt. The lender helpfully offers to roll over the debt for another month. As of the end of the first month, then, that consumer who borrowed 600, at that alleged 25 percent, owed 750.
Rolling it over puts another 150 on the charges. So now that same 600 has now put the consumer into debt with that lender for a total of 900. What now happens is the consumer is going to struggle even more mightily to pay that back. Each month she or he does not do so 150 is added to the cost.
Unpaid for one year, that original 600 fast secured loan could end up costing that consumer 1800. If a consumer cannot come up with 600 on her or his own, what are the chances she or he can pay 2400 back at the end of the year? The fact is that many cannot – and, for 600, they lose their vehicle.
While we are not suggesting that a fast secured loan is a bad thing, we are saying that the faster you need the loan the more wary you should be about the lender you choose.

I passed by a fast food place the other day where cars were lined up in the drive thru. I suddenly pictured, in my mind, holocaust victims lined up in front of the gas chamber. I know it was an unfair comparison. Death by gas chamber is quicker and probably more humane. Researchers have shown that fast food contributes to weight gain, insulin resistance, and other health problems that can lead to a slow death.
The most noted problem with fast food is that it tends to be high in fats. Although fat can be a high-octane fuel for our bodies, the fats in fast food tend to be the unhealthy kind, Fat is also addictive; the more we eat, the more we want. Therefore, fast food consumers are inclined to consume more fuel than they can possibly use.
Fast food is also a processed food, and many processed foods are over processed at the cost of nutrients. Flavor is also destroyed, so before manufacturers try to feed us this nutrient poor food, they add things like salt, sugar, and fat to improve the taste. Then they add evil stuff like artificial flavouring and colouring, and preservatives, many of which are made from fossil fuels. Bad news for adults, but for children the consequences can be even greater, as their growing bodies and brains do not process and eliminate these chemicals as effectively;
Another concern is the high fructose corn syrup in the nutrient deficient soft drink. High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is an artificial additive that’s cheaper and easier for manufacturers of sodas to use. HFCS is made by treating corn (usually genetically modified corn) with a variety of enzymes (some of which are also genetically modified) to first extract the sugar glucose and then convert some of it into fructose. The body, however, processes HFCS differently than it does sugar. As well as being called “a major contributor to the global epidemic of obesity”, HFCS is associated with increased risk of Type II diabetes, heart disease, accelerated aging, and a number of other health problems. The typical teenage boy in the United States now gets about 10% of his daily calories from soda.
The biggest danger of fast food may simply be the lack of fibre. A double cheeseburger, medium french fries, and a medium soft drink, from McDonald’s, have a combined total of six grams of fibre. At that rate, to get the daily recommended intake of 25-40g of fiber, you would have to consume well over 4,000 calories daily. Besides regularity, fibre is needed in the diet for the cleansing process of the body. Lack of fibre in our daily diet leads to the poor elimination of toxins, which allows for the possibility of disease to set in. Lack of fibre has been shown to increase the risk of constipation, diabetes, diverticulosis, heart disease, cancer, and a host of other illnesses.
I’m not trying to point my finger at the fast food industry. They only sell us what we demand. We eat fatty foods because we like fatty foods. We eat too many calories because we enjoy being pigs. We go to fast food places because we are too lazy to cook for ourselves. We shouldn’t look for someone else to blame when our own choices cause disaster. We don’t need to attack the fast food industry, we need to attack our own lifestyle.

In the 1960s there was a class of cars introduced to the world known as muscle cars. These cars were sleek and sporty and contained a powerful engine. Most of these cars boasted a V8 engine which was geared for speed. As these cars were produced the manufacturers were in stiff competition with each other. As each manufacturer tried to out do the other, we were led into an era of some of the fastest cars of our time. With no thought to gas and fuel efficiency, Americans seemed to be having the time of their lives. Their cars were fast and eye-catching, both on the road and on the race track. Racing stripes and flashy decals made a statement about both the car and the driver. It seemed the flashier the car the more desirable.
At a time when the luxury automobile was the king of the road for the married set, the younger crowd wanted something smaller, faster, and sportier. The Shelby Mustang and the 440 Roadrunner are two of the fast cars which were built to satisfy the desire for high performance and speed. There were many more fast cars to come. Camaros, Chargers, GTOs, and Firebirds all tried to pack as much punch under the hood as was possible. Corvettes offered speed and sleek style, but they also had a high price tag. Most of the other high perfperformance cars offered a price that was affordable to the average working class people.
The Fuel Effect
During the 1960s and 70s auto manufacturers were riding high on a wave of speed and performance. Then we entered an era where we were told gas was in short supply and we were destroying the ozone with our extravagant auto emissions. We reluctantly let go of our fast and sporty cars and took to the streets with a V6 and even a V4. Gas mileage and cheaper insurance costs forced the fast cars onto the race track and off the roadways.
The desire for speed will be with us always. We will probably never again see a time when speed and high performance engines are sold for the every day street car but we can get a glimpse of these cars at the raceway or at vintage car shows. The baby boomers were around to see these cars at their inception and they still carry a torch for them today. Many will spend a small fortune to restore one of these original fast cars back to their former splendor.
