I want to buy a sport car and I want to choose from Lexus IS or BMW 3 series. Which one you suggest?

Such an expensive sporty car like Lexus or BMW costs a lot to insure.

If you're actually interested in design and performance (racing), BMW wins. If you actually care for car longevity, meaning you will be buying, not leasing, get the Lexus IS. However, on that same note, if you are going to buy a Lexus IS, just buy a Scion Tc instead. If you are very serious about Lexus / Toyota reliability over the long run, then the Lexus IS is the only Lexus you should not be considering.

If want fun for the buck, try Mazda.
By the time you own either of these for very long you could have afforded to buy both a Miata and a RX-8 and been money ahead.
If you just want to impress others get the BMW, because money must not be a concern for you. At least I see older BMW cars on the road, I can't say the same thing for the Lexus (they must die early deaths due to failure).

Depends on what you're looking for.
If it's pure driving excitement … the BMW 3-series wins hands down.
If you're willing to give up just alittle bit of that for more refinement and far greater reliability, the Lexus IS is your winner.
Both are exceptional driving cars. The Lexus is proven to be rock solid. The BMW offers more driving enjoyment but reliability is not as high.

These are sporty compact luxury sedans, not sportscars.
I have driven them.
Lexus has smoother and quieter ride. It is more reliable.
BMW slightly handles better and is more fun to drive because the ride is not as smooth or quiet.
